Summer Shoot 2019

Every year during the Summer break from Meetings, we gather together for group Photography Outings. At the end of the Season, a Competition is held comprising solely of images taken during these Summer Shoots. Rules HERE.

Wendy is kindly organising this year's Summer Shoot itinerary.

As with previous years nothing is set in stone as the weather plays it's part in what is possible on the day. For that reason it is useful to let her know if you intend to come so that if there is a last minute change of plans more suited to the weather conditions you don't want to find yourself on the Chalk Downs for butterflies when the rest of the gang are photographing choppy seas and moody skies!

The Itinerary is below, but also on a Word Document HERE.

If you have any favourite trip preferences from previous summers let Wendy know and She will try and slot them all in.

Wednesday 19th June 2019, 5pm

Old Bladbean Stud Gardens

CPS Members only.

Wendy has secured a private photoshoot of a beautiful garden; ‘Old Bladblean Stud Garden’ on the evening of Wednesday 19th June when the Rose garden in particular should be perfect.

This garden is part of the NGS and we are so pleased that Carole the owner has agreed to allow us full access.

This particular invite is strictly for Members only, and will not be advertised on the CPS Facebook group as not everyone on there is a fully paid member and we will be on private property.

The A2 at Barham will be closed from 8pm until 6am.

Best to travel along Stone street via Stelling Minnis. Look out for the yellow National Garden Scheme signs along the way.

Car sharing recommended and we should then be able to park easily in front of a large barn reached by a track alongside the property where you can see an old telephone box just above the fence line.

We are welcome anytime after 5pm and asked to leave a donation in the bag hanging on the gate where there will also be garden guide leaflets.

Directions HERE.

Current Summer Shoot Lineup:

Wendesday 3rd July

No event.

Wednesday 26th June

3pm-5pm Turner Gallery, Margate.

7:30pm Broadstairs Harbour.

There is an exhibition of Seaside Photography at the Turner Gallery with images dating back to the 1850’s right up to present day and includes the work of many famous photographers. The Gallery closes at 5pm so, for those that don’t work, there is an opportunity to meet at the gallery at 3pm and then have a snack.

High tide is 6-30pm so a chance to capture some images at Margate before heading to the second meeting point at Broadstairs 7-30pm for the outgoing tide, Harbour and beach scenes.

Meeting point The Turner Gallery at 3pm

Meeting point Broadstairs Harbour at 7-30pm (There is a car park situated at the top of the narrow street that leads down to the Harbour. The car park on the harbour arm is very expensive)

Wendesday 10th July, 7:30pm

Faversham Town and Creek.

Wendy is away on 3rd and 10th July.

For your info HIGH tide is approximately 6-30pm on the 10th July.

Venue: Faversham town and Creek. Easy parking and short walk from Bank street car park. post code ME13 8PS.

Be aware that Tesco car park now has cameras and you need to enter a shopping receipt code into a machine for no longer than 2 hrs.

Anyone welcome and I suggest 7-30pm meet in the Market Place near Guild Hall on stilts. That way if some want to go earlier to explore incoming tide at the creek you can all regroup at 7-30.

Potential for Street, Architecture, Creek and boat yard and plenty of pubs to choose from

Wednesday 17th July, 6:30pm.

Chalk Downs, near Temple Ewell.

This trip is very weather dependant!

We need a warm sunny calm evening but July is a good time of year for roosting butterflies on the chalk downs near Temple Ewell. In addition to butterflies there are a variety of other insects and wild flowers and grasses. You will need tripods, and macro or telephoto zoom lenses.

Directions: Turn off the A2 for Lydden and drive through the village and some open countryside. As you approach the village of Temple Ewell there are bollards in centre of road and what looks like an old red brick pub on the left. Right alongside this building is a driveway that winds around the back or the building and opens up into a carpark at the foot of the nature reserve. Meet in the car park for 6-30pm but if you are later just follow the footpath through the reserve gate up into the meadows. Sadly it is very much a dog walking area so mind your step!

Wednesday 31st July.

Enchanted Garden (TBC)

Awaiting confirmation from Donna at Enchanted Garden for macro and cake! Otherwise member’s choice.  Wendy can let members know via email of any new plans, and of course this website will be updated.

Wednesday 7th August, 7pm.

Reculver beach and Towers.

High tide is at 4.45pm so the outgoing tide will provide plenty of opportunity to look back at the towers from the mud flats (bring your welly boots) or hopefully some nice Turner skies from the Tower and ruin area.

Meeting point 7 to 7-30pm in the car park opposite the King Ethelbert Pub.

Postcode CT6 6SU.

The pub will doubtless be the end to our evening as well!

Wednesday 21st August. 2:45pm (1:15pm TBC)

Ramsgate Seal Trip.

Ramsgate Tunnels TBC.

Day time visit to Ramsgate for Seal Trip (£20 per person) and optional Ramsgate Tunnel visit (£7.50 or £5.50 for 60yrs and over).

Meeting point for the Seal Trip is at 2.45pm in the Harbour area opposite the Oak Hotel.

Go through the Blue Harbour Marina Gates where we will meet Skipper Tony on the ramp. There is one full boat of 12 members booked on the 3pm sailing but if more folk can fill a second boat for a 1.30pm sailing or you want to be on a reserve list please let Wendy know. Friends and family welcome now in the hope of running a second boat.

Anyone interested in the Ramsgate Tunnels tour please email Wendy as booking a guided slot essential in the school summer holidays. Hard hats provided. Approx 1.25kms of walking and tour lasts 1 and ½ hours. Photography is allowed in the lit areas underground.

Wednesday 28th August.

Town 'Blue Hour' Shoot (TBC).

By now the evenings will be drawing in quite quickly and we lose the light but capture the Blue hour so Wendy suggests we vote on a town and we will publish the result of your preferences nearer the time. This will be the last Summer Shoot of this season and we usually gravitate towards the P word!
