Guest Judge Kevin Bell was welcomed to the club to judge our 7th Competition; Set Subject 'Rain' and Open category.
Members were asked to submit images into the set subject category 'Rain' and also the usual 'Open' section where anything can be entered.
‘Rain’ is not quite as straight-forward a category as one might think for a variety of different images for Kevin to comment on and offer suggestions for improvement. Indeed, a few entries had a very similar idea of a blurred object behind a window pane with rain drops in sharp focus, so the unusual task of having to compare nuances between them came into play giving our judge a challenge!
He awarded First place in the set subject to Phil Grosvenor for his image 'Purple Rain', his first ever Competition win, scoring 20 points, closely followed by Philip Wells for 'Red Flower Through Rainy Window' and Lyn Gregory with 'Heading Home' each scoring 19 points and a ‘Highly Commended’ award.
Wendy Kennett and Pete Smith also received Highly Commended awards for their images 'It’ll Pass' and ‘A Rainy Day At Grasstrack' respectively, both earning 18 points apiece.
The open section was won by Lyn Gregory for her image 'Light And Mist’ and Steve Presnell also achieved 20 points for 'Branching Out' and a Highly Commended award.
Certificates were also awarded to Jon Strange for his Highly Commended 'Ellie', and Bill Grinney for 'Close Encounter’, being awarded 19 and 18 points respectively.
