At the meeting on 1st November David Silk enthralled members with his talk explaining alternative photographic processes.
Up to the break David showed various methods that had been used from the very concept of photography. He put on show glass and metal plate images going back to late 19th century and a selection of his collection of old unused plates and demonstrated a basic plate camera.
During the second half of the evening members were encouraged to join in which they eagerly did and produced cyanotype prints using the prepared paper David had provided.
Many members were able to complete and take home their finished images.
A very different evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

At our meeting on 8th November Chairman John Newell presided over his Annual 'Creative Challenge' competition.
John had previously provided an image to all members and asked them to employ their creative skills with the task of manipulating it in any way they wanted. John judged and commented on members creative images they had arrived at.
The chosen winner was Philip Wells with his image entitled 'Garage flower'
After the selection John invited members to explain how they had arrived at the converted version they had submitted. It was clear that many entrants had come out of their comfort zone and enjoyed a new kind of challenge and at the same time learnt new skills.

Members enjoyed an evening of projected images in a competition with the set subject of 'silhouette' followed by the 'open' section.
Judge for the evening was KIrsty Ralfs A.R.P.S. from Herne Bay.
KIrsty gave some useful and constructive criticism where needed and was given a difficult task arriving at results by the quality of images entered.
The winner of the set subject was Wendy Kennett L.R..P.S. with her picture entitled "Wander in the Fog", Highly Commended was awarded to Sarah Vinall with 'City Silhouette', Steve Presnell with 'Beyond the Pines' and Sandy Littlejohn with 'African Starling'.
The open section was won by Jon Strange with his picture called 'Ellie' and Highly Commended went to Wendy Kennett L.R.P.S. with 'Seen better days' .

Kevin Harvey gave a fascinating talk to members on the subject of 3D photography illustrating his lecture with many 3D pictures and showing members the original scene in 2D and the resulting 3D images after he had put them through the conversion process.Kevin provided suitable 3D eyewear for the audience and articles were seen to be virtually jumping out of the screen!.
Members were able to handle a range of various 3D cameras and associated viewers. An enjoyable and different evening concerning a mainly little unexplored area of photography used by amateurs.

On Wednesday 6th Gavin Hoey well known tutor and speaker on Photoshop and Lightroom techniques was our guest speaker.
Gavin's lecture was entitled 'Lighten up'.
He provided ideas and showed combinations of various kinds of lighting and gave live examples of several techniques he uses.
In the second half Gavin concentrated again on his use of lighting with various props and with the help of John Newell (Chairman) who was his model for the evening.

On 13th December members enjoyed our 4th competition, a print competition which had the set subject of 'Textures' followed by the 'Open' section.
Premier judge Helen Taylor had the task of selecting and commenting on over 70 images!
